Recently I have been receiving a large number of spam emails sent to my LwT email address.
It occurs to me that it is possible that someone, maybe me (!), who is using this list has a computer which is insecure.
Naturally I decided to check my own computer for attacks.
You can check yours by going to:
https://www.grc.com/x/ne.dll?bh0bkyd2
and clicking on "Proceed".
There are several tests starting with the "File Sharing" test (at the left of a bar containing several tests). I tried this one and then I moved on to the right to try other tests.
It takes about one minute to run this comprehensive test.
I wonder if anyone on this list is able to comment more fully on the value of tests such as this one? Are there alternative tests available which are better?

ShieldsUp seems to be a highly recommended way of checking your computer security and it has been around for some time. I bought a new PC about 9 months ago and started to use BullGuard as my anti virus, etc, protection rather than Norton which I had used previously. When I had set up BullGuard I used ShieldsUp to check the integrity and it came through with flying colours which was comforting. I have just checked again and all is still very good.
The tests are well explained, and seem logical, but I don't really know how good they are. I wonder if services like this are mainly about worrying you so that you buy the company's product but that does not seem to be so in this case.
ShieldsUp tells me that my computer is exceptionally secure but my BT spam filter still filters out tens of spam emails a day. I think spam emails are as much about the persistence of the spammers as they are about the security of any particular computer.

Thank you Gerald for providing this link which I found very useful for testing my system security. I also found another link when exploring the site and looking up information on firewalls. It runs a "Leaktest" to see if the firewall is allowing information to be sent without one's knowledge.
