Seeing the discussion on Photoshop, is there anyone who has experience using DxO Optics Pro 4 that can express an opinion as to how good it is at doing automatic batch jobs on RAW files?
I want to take photos of 30,000 slides, using a Canon 400D, and then batch process them in some program or other that will:
1) Automatically take care of any colour bias that may have occurred to the slides after 30 or 50 years.
2) Restrict any excessive contrast enhancement that may occur in taking pictures of slides.
3) Apply other corrections automatically: sharpening, etc.
4) Re-save the RAW files as jpegs.

I just had a look at Gimp. It seems to have a lot of facilities and a scripting language. The language is called Scheme and looks a lot like Lisp to me. If you're not a programmer, I'd give this a miss.

You don't have to use the scripting language; it's mainly to automate repetitive tasks and provide the more exotic effects. I don't like Lisp either; it's the main reason I don't use Emacs. You can use other scripting languages with Gimp, including Perl and Python I think.
