An ex-colleague who declares herself not to be pc-savvy is about to go broadband but she has several phones and Sky. I don't know if the Sky system needs a micro filter on its socket. My inclination would be to say yes, in case it interferes with the broadband signal, but would I be correct in that assumption?

Yes! Sky boxes play havoc with the ADSL signal.
Have a peek at www.clarity.it - based in Scotland, they can do replacement master faceplates etc to reduce problems.
